Botulinum Toxin (Botox)
Cerebral Palsy
- Paralytic effect at neuromuscular junction, inhibits release of acetylcholine
- gastroc complex for equinus gait
- Hamstrings for crouch gait
- Adductors/hamstrings to improve seating
- Used as diagnostic before surgery (ex: into posterior tib)
- As analgesic prior to sx to dec pain and spasms
- (ex: adductors prior to hip reduction sx)
- Phenol/alcohol injections used similarly
