Takeoff Physical requirements

During the takeoff, the task requires the surfer to move 75% of their body weight in less than a second1

Examination

Iso Push-up

  • Isometric Push-up (IPU)1
  • The patient maintains a straight line between torso and upper body while keeping the elbows at 100° flexion1
  • Increased iso push-up force correlated with decreased time to takeoff/pop-up1

Dynamic Push-Up (DPU)

  • Dynamic Push-up (DPU)1
  • Increased dynamic push-up force correlated with decreased time to takeoff/pop-up1

Exercises

Gerr recommends 100 pop ups a day broken up into 50 FS, 50 BS. In addition, he advises doing the pop-up eyes open (EO) and eyes closed (EC).
