Interosseous membrane of the Forearm
Keywords
IO Membrane
There are 2 bands:
- Anterior
- Posterior
Anterior band
Fibers run obliquely in an inferomedial direction, proximately from the radius, to the lowest fibers running the most obliquely1
There are 3 bundles of the anterior band that reinforce it:
- Proximal bundle: runs almost horizontal1
- Middle descending bundle: Increased obliquity from proximal bundle1
- Distal descending bundle: Most oblique1
The inferomedial oblique direction prevents the radius from a superior or proximal displacement1.
Posterior band
The posterior band runs obliquely, perpendicular to the anterior band1.
There are 2 bundles:
- Proximal ascending bundle:
- Distal ascending bundle:
The superolateral fiber direction prevents distal displacement of the radius
