The ilium is one of the 3 bones that make up the innominate union, which forms a part of the pelvis3.

External surface

  • Gluteal lines
    • Posterior gluteal lines
    • Anterior gluteal lines
    • Inferior gluteal lines
  • Anterior-superior iliac spine (ASIS)
  • Anterior-inferior iliac spine (AIIS)
  • Iliac crest
  • Posterior-superior iliac spine (PSIS)
  • Posterior-inferior iliac spine (PIIS)
  • Greater sciatic notch
  • Greater sciatic foramen
  • Sacrotuberous ligament
  • Sacrospinous ligament

One of the osteologic features on the external surface of the ilium3

Posterior-superior iliac spine (PSIS)

One of the osteologic features on the external surface of the ilium3

Posterior-inferior iliac spine (PIIS)

One of the osteologic features on the external surface of the ilium3

Greater sciatic notch

One of the osteologic features on the external surface of the ilium3

Greater sciatic foramen

One of the osteologic features on the external surface of the ilium3

Iliac fossa

One of the osteologic features on the internal surface of the ilium3. The iliac fossa is the origin of the iliacus muscle3.

Auricular surface

One of the osteologic features on the internal surface of the ilium3. The auricular surface articules with the sacrum to form the sacroiliac joint3.

Iliac tuberosity

One of the osteologic features on the internal surface of the ilium3. The iliac tuberosity is posterior to the auricular surface and is an attachment point of sacroiliac ligaments3.
